Oncology in China

Annually the cancer becomes a heartrending experience for more than 8 million people all over the world and unfortunately not all of them can overcome it. The science and medicine of the different countries of the world are directed on cancer overcoming, however, the quantity of people dying of cancer remains stably large. The oncologic disease itself is not always the reason of that. The most often causes of patient death are the downtime, less informative diagnostics and inadequate treatment. Statistically, the percent of patients who receive adequate medical aid to struggle against the cancer is very low in developing countries. For this reason, every day many people go abroad for the cancer treatment.

China is considered to be the perspective country; the Chinese medicine combines the best Eastern traditions and the modern world standards. The certain leaders of the cancer treatment are such countries as Israel and Germany, but the reason of that is the lack of knowledge about the cancer treatment in China. The Chinese oncologists take up the problem of cancer treatment very seriously and receive the patents for new unique drugs annually.

The centre of the international tourism «NewMedCenter» is one of the few companies working in the Chinese market, which provides the support to the patients and organizes their treatment in the best clinics of the country. Those patients who have already tried different techniques and whose doctors have already refused from them address us concerning the oncology treatment in China. And we see the surprising results just after some months of cancer treatment in China! Today the Chinese medicine has the unique techniques of cancer treatment including HIFU-therapy, medicinal therapy on the basis of herbs and many others. Today the possibility to receive the qualified medical treatment of oncologic diseases in China for the majority of patients is the chance to overcome the disease successfully and to prolong their life.

Principles of cancer treatment in China

Today the theory of the Chinese medicine has no such a concept as «incurable disease», and the first steps to cancer treatment in China have been made many centuries ago. Today the government of China gives particular attention to the struggle against cancer diseases and actively finances various research programs. In the western medicine the approaches to the treatment of oncologic diseases essentially differ from the worldwide ones.

Principle 1: cancer is curable at any stage, and efficiency of treatment depends on adequacy of techniques and professionalism of doctors.

Principle 2: it is necessary to struggle not the disease consequences, but its reasons.

Principle 3: the success of cancer treatment depends on the general improvement and strengthening of the whole rganism.

Principle 4: the combination of innovative techniques with the traditional ones gives the chance of the positive treatment outcome even at the serious cases.

Principle 5: treatment continuity. Each subsequent course of treatment is followed by the recovery program of rehabilitation.

Thanks to such an approach even the patients with the advanced forms of cancer return to the productive life in 2-3 years and discontinue the treatment at the oncologist.

Cancer diagnostics in China

The Chinese clinics use all of the most progressive techniques for the extensive diagnostics of cancer, including the earliest stages. They are the following:

Laboratory diagnosis – the research of biological materials on the presence of tumor markers and the vital values;

Ultrasound of organs and vessels, including the contrast-enhanced ultrasound;

Sonography – an ultrasound condition of joints which allows to define the tumoral activity at the very beginning of disease;

Radioscopy – including mammography, irrigoscopy and X-ray radiography;

Computed tomography (CT) – the computed tomography gives the chance to investigate the pathology of any organ. CT angiography for the research of vessels, multidetector computed tomography for the organ investigating at different angles and in the projection, and spiral CT angiography allowing the investigation with the injection of contrast substance are also used.

Virtual colonoscopy – video-diagnostics of pathologies of the lower divisions of gastrointestinal tract.

Positron emission tomography – allows tracing various processes in the organism, including the metabolism, transport of useful substances, and receptor interactions.

Scintigraphy - isotope scanning of the internal organs and bones for the development of metastases, osteoporosis and other diseases.

Magnetic resonance imaging (МRI) – virtual investigation of the brain and backbone divisions for the tumors and vascular pathologies.

Biopsy of the internal organs tissues with the subsequent laboratory research

Endoscopy has proved itself as a diagnostic method. By means of the laparoscopy and cystoscopy there is a possibility to investigate the latent pathologies of the pelvic organs and others.

Thermography - the diagnostics sensitive to infra-red radiation.

All period of the cancer investigation in China lasts no more than 1-2 days. At this time the patient is accompanied by representatives of the company “NewMedCenter”. The patient passes primary inspection and consultation at the oncologist who prescribes the investigation program based on the patient’s case record.

Cancer treatment in China: the disease varieties

The oncologic disease affects any organ and organ system. If the treatment regimen is inadequate, even the small pathological nidus can transform in the metastases in the nearby organs in several years. The Chinese clinics offer the expanded program of treatment of such kinds of a cancer as:

  • Gastric cancer (squamous cell cancer, adenocarcinoma, lymphoma, sarcoma, neuroendocrine tumors);
  • Pancreatic cancer (ductal adenocarcinoma, cystadenocarcinoma, mucinous adenocarcinoma, squamous cell cancer);
  • Intestinal cancer (including the small intestine cancer, small intestine lymphomas, carcinoid tumors);
  • Colon polyps;
  • Lung cancer (small-cell lung cancer and non-small cell lung cancer, including adenocarcinoma, squamous cell cancer, large cell carcinoma, bronchial carcinoids,  smooth muscle cancer, blood vessels cancer);
  • Mammary gland cancer (papillary cancer, medullary cancer, inflammatory cancer, infiltrative ductal cancer, Paget’s cancer);
  • Ovarian cancer (serous cystadenocarcinoma, endometrioid carcinoma, etc.);
  • Prostate cancer (adenocarcinoma, sarcoma, small-cell and squamous cell cancer);
  • Bladder cancer (superficial and invasive, including transitional cell carcinoma, squamous cell cancer, adenocarcinoma);
  • Hepatic cancer (hepatocellular carcinoma, cholangiocarcinoma);
  • Kidney cancer (sarcoma or the Wilms tumor, renal cell cancer, adenocarcinoma of the kidneys or the kidney pelvis);
  • Thyroid cancer (papillary cancer, follicular cancer, medullary and anaplastic cancer);
  • Throat cancer, tongue cancer and laryngeal cancer;
  • Brain cancer (acoustic neuroma, ependymoma, astrocytoma, medulloblastoma, meningioma, etc.);
  • Acute leukemia or the blood cancer (leukemia, lymphoma, multiple myeloma);
  • Skin cancer (melanoma, squamous cell cancer, Kaposi’s sarcoma);
  • Bone cancer (Ewing’s sarcoma);
  • Cardiac sarcoma;
  • Lymphosarcoma.

Modern techniques of cancer treatment in China

The departments of oncology of China successfully use all of the most progressive techniques of cancer treatment actual in all developed countries of the world. The clinics are equipped with the modern operating rooms with video monitoring and the devices for the laparoscopy and for the treatment by means of radiosurgery techniques, the clinics include the departments of radiation therapy and are equipped with the sterile isolation wards. If you are going to China for the cancer treatment, you can be confident that here the medicine is at the same high level, as in the countries of Europe, the USA or Israel. The Chinese oncologists are guided by the recommendations of the world cancer control organizations concerning diagnostics and treatment.

Treatment techniques in China

Cancer surgery. In certain cases the surgical method is still the most effective. Today the cancer surgery in China assumes the performing of radical or palliative operations, and operations on the organ transplantation.

Radiation therapy. In the Chinese clinics this method of treatment is applied often in a complex with surgery or chemotherapy. Radiation therapy is used for the treatment of laryngeal cancer, prostate cancer, and rectal carcinoma. The principle of method: under the influence of x-ray radiation the molecular structure of the damaged cells changes, thus, tumor cells die and healthy cells remain intact.

Chemotherapy. Pharmacotherapy of different oncologic diseases is used both as a separate technique and as a part of the complex therapy. Modern medical drugs which are applied to the chemotherapy in China destroy the cancer cells actively. The chemotherapy course is directed on the suppression of the latent metastases after the surgical treatment or radiation therapy. Today the group of chemotherapy drugs used by the Chinese oncologists possesses sparing action and is not dangerous for the vital organs.

Hormone therapy. The treatment of mammary gland tumors and prostate tumors with the group of hormonal drugs is successfully performed in many medical centers of China. Hormonal therapy is prescribed both separately and in the combination with other methods.

Photodynamic therapy. A method of conservative treatment which consists in the application of the photoactive groups of drugs. The drugs are injected into the patient organism, and their action is activated by the laser radiation. As a result of photochemical reaction the tumor cells die. This method is considered to be the sparing enough and is used for the treatment of the skin cancer, tongue cancer, laryngeal cancer, lung cancer, and the tumors of uterus and vagina also.

Immunotherapy. A conservative method of treatment based on the reaction of immune system of a human body to the proteins exhibited from the surface of the cancer cells. The human immune system does not distinguish cancer cells and consequently does not join the protection mechanism. For this reason the so-called “drugs-killers” have been developed, which affect the tumor cells, but thus are not torn away by the organism.

Focused ultrasound ablation (HIFU-therapy in China). One of the last and hi-tech methods of conservative treatment of the uterine cancer and the prostate cancer. The tumor tissues die under the influence of the ultrasound waves of high intensity, thus the influence appears only on the strictly localized area.

Intensity-modulated radiation therapy. The method is applied for the treatment of malignant tumors which are localized in the hard-to-reach areas and consequently are not appropriate to the surgical treatment. The tumor is influenced by the beams of different intensity therefore cancer cells die. Usually the modulation method can be applied in the several stages.

Proton therapy – the proton beam therapy, one of the most perspective directions of nuclear medicine. The treatment occurs thanks to the special device – the charged-particle accelerator. Cancer cells are irradiated with the ions of carbon and hydrogen protons. An advantage of this technique is its high accuracy of influence.

IMRT – radiotheraphy based on the 2 linear accelerator, a computer tomograph, and the video monitoring system. The technique gives the chance to regulate the intensity of an irradiation depending on the tumor size, its localization and the patient condition.

Cryodestruction. The technique is based on the freezing of tumor tissues by the liquid nitrogen. It concerns to the minimally invasive surgery and is applied for the treatment of colorectal cancer, uterine cancer and all varieties of the skin cancer.

Atiangiogenesis. Injection of the drugs blocking the process of cancer cells reproduction. As a result the tumor does not receive necessary nutritious elements and its growth stops. The technique practically does not render negative influence on healthy organs and is well tolerated by the patient.

Gamma knife radiosurgery. Inoperable treatment of oncologic diseases in China by means of the gamma knife device allows treating both benign and malignant brain tumors. The gamma knife is applied when the tumor is located in the hard-to-reach area and there is no possibility to operate using the standard neurosurgical methods. It is a minimally invasive intervention without cranial trepanation which is less traumatic and does not threat the brain activity disorders as a result of microtraumas as it happens at standard surgical intervention.

Stem cell transplantation. While the active discussions on a subject of the ethics of stem cell treatments are conducted in other countries, there are positive results of cancer treatment using the stem cell replaced from the donor in China. The method is effective for the treatment of ovarian cancer, kidney cancer, pancreatic cancer and metastases.

Operations on bone marrow cells (or stem cells) transplantation. Bone marrow transplantation is a much extended procedure in China. The effective treatment is provided thanks to the huge base of donors, modern devices and specially equipped rehabilitation rooms. When speaking about the marrow transplantation, transplantation of stem cells is usually supposed. Usually someone from the natural relatives of the patient can be the donor, if the patient has not such relatives the cells of the suitable donor are used.

East techniques of cancer treatment in China

In the late seventies the sad statistics was outlined in China: the cancer was on the first place among the reasons of death rate of the Chinese people. Then the program directed on the support of researches of the ancient Chinese techniques of medicine has been accepted. Today the feature of the cancer treatment in China is the complex approach: a combination of the international standards and the traditional medicine. The result of this program has proved the efficiency – death rate from the cancer has considerably decreased.

Herbal medicine, physiotherapy, and treatment with the mushroom spore are still considered to be the most actual techniques of cancer treatment in China.

Herbal medicine in China

Such plants as ginseng, locoweed, privet, ganoderma, codonopsis and other specific species form the basis of the anticarcinogenic medical drugs manufactured in China. The plants are gathered in the ecological areas of China and Tibet. The basic action of herbal drugs is directed on the activization of immune processes, healthy cells growth and the tumor cells oppression.

Besides, the herbal complexes are applied to overcome the side effects observed in many patients. They are pain, weariness, nausea, and sleeplessness which are caused by the general intoxication of the organism after the chemotherapy.

Such drugs as Holikana and Hitozana which are used in the departments of oncology of China are considered to be specific enough also.

So, Hitozan promotes the increase of cancer cells sensitivity, neutralizes the toxins and deprives the arising cells from protection. Thus, the cells get to the blood flow where they are absorbed by the lymphocytes. As a result, tumor growth stops, and the obstacle for the metastases distribution is created.

Holikan is used to prevent the cancer and to treat the earliest stages of the disease. It stimulates the development of T- lymphocytes and suppresses the process of the tumor cells reproduction. As a whole, the action of the drug consists in preventing the process of cell regeneration. The complex of Holikan concerns the medicines of the third generation. The pharmacologists and experts of gene engineering worked over its creation.

Physiotherapy and psychotherapy in China

The complex of various procedures is applied together with classical medical techniques. All physiotherapeutic procedures are performed in the hospital by the qualified experts. Oncologic treatment in China is accompanied by the following procedures:

  • Qigong massage;
  • Acupuncture;
  • Starvation and special diets;
  • Meditations, hypnosis, psychocorrection.

All these techniques are used to overcome the causes of disease, to increase the energy potential, and to activate the immune processes. As a result of physiotherapy in China:

  • The antineoplastic effect is reached – the growth of cancer cells stops;
  • The prevention of cancer development in other organs is reached – metastasis;
  • An increase of the functions of immune and endocrine systems is observed;
  • An improvement of the metabolism is observed.

It is necessary to note the results of psychotherapy in the cancer treatment separately. Many experts of psychology consider a cancer to be the consequences of stress, the wrong attitudes, and the endured complexes. A problem of the psychotherapist is finding-out of the reasons and mutual work with the patient, directed on their overcoming. To increase the motivation of patients the techniques of hypnosis and meditation are used.

Cancer treatment by the mushroom spores in China

This kind of therapy in the east medicine remains one of the newest. And, nevertheless, it is officially approved by the Chinese Anticancer Association. Cancer treatment by the mushroom spores is officially applied in the clinics of China, Japan, India, South Korea, Indonesia and Vietnam. Fungotherapy or the treatment by the mushroom spores is the official name of the technique. Today it is used first of all for cancer treatment, and also for the treatment of such diseases, as diabetes, virus hepatitis, benign tumors and others.

Throughout many years the properties of separate species of mushrooms which provoked the destruction of cancer cells without interfering with the vital functions of an organism in certain dosages have been investigated. There are about 10 species of medicinal mushrooms used in the drugs for cancer treatment.

The oncologic centers of China

There are specialized oncologic clinics and institutes in China in which the best scientific staff is concentrated, and also there are the official centers of east medicine which are financed and supervised by the government. The most known medical centers in China, specializing on cancer treatment are the following:
